Fulfilling the Carbon Reduction Commitment
Measure the exact impact of your carbon emissions with Carbon View from PRI
Carbon View is an instant, continuously updated display of data from your gas, water and electricity meters. From this, CO2 emissions are calculated, using Government figures, and is displayed for your building or site in real-time per-second figures.
The Carbon Reduction Commitment Scheme (CRC), announced in the Energy White Paper 2007, will apply mandatory emissions trading to cut carbon emissions from large commercial and public sector organisations. It will provide incentives for organisations to save money through energy efficiency. (

Carbon View is a key component in carbon reduction and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts. The display raises awareness for staff, management and visitors to the building and so demonstrates a real commitment to positively promote the issue of climate change.
Subsequently, energy wastage is reduced, and cost savings are made
How do we know it is effective?
Carbon View is currently used by IMechE at their headquarters in London, and they report not only great success in seeing reduced figures displayed, but also in encouraging ideas for carbon reduction from visitors and staff alike (See full case study). We have found that using Carbon View in a prominent area drives an awareness that results in action to reduce consumption.
With Governmental pressures for energy display, Carbon View is a means to benchmark existing output and target carbon reduction.
- A key tool if you are striving to be carbon neutral
- Promotes a low-carbon building and drives energy savings
- Highly effective for public sector
How does it work?
The system works with PRI smart meters by taking data via the MODBUS port and feeds into a Carbon Viewer communications unit. Pulses from other utilities are fed into this unit (up to four per unit), and the data is transmitted over a LAN to a fixed IP address - usually a PC that acts as a separate server and is connected to the display monitor.
- Precise, official statistics using actual real-time energy consumption for multi-utilities
