Carbon view is an instantaneous, continuously updated system that displays data from your gas, water and electricity meters. From this data, CO2 emissions are calculated, using Government figures, and is displayed for your building or site in real-time per-second figures.
Carbon View is a key component in any company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts. The display raises awareness for staff, management and visitors to the building and so demonstrates a real commitment to positively promote the issue of climate change.
Subsequently, energy wastage is reduced, and cost savings are made.
Carbon View is currently used by IMechE at their headquarters in London, and they report not only great success in seeing reduced figures displayed, but also in encouraging ideas for carbon reduction from visitors and staff alike (See full case study). We have found that using Carbon View in a prominent area drives an awareness that results in action to reduce consumption.
With Governmental pressures for energy display, Carbon View is a means to benchmark existing output and target carbon reduction.
How does it work?
The system works with PRI smart meters by taking data via the MODBUS port and feeds into a Carbon Viewer communications unit. Pulses from other utilities are fed into this unit (up to four per unit), and the data is transmitted over a LAN to a fixed IP address - usually a PC that acts as a separate server and is connected to the display monitor.
